The Vicar Writes ...

Dear Friends

Happy New Year!  As we enter 2014, we also begin the countdown to 2019 and the 800th anniversary of the dedication of our church building.  There have been many exciting developments in our life together since I arrived in 2012, with a number of new members joining us and of course the completion of the St Denys Parish Centre.  Running alongside all of this has been much prayer and reflection as well as the hard work and dedication of church members.

As we look ahead now, it is vital that we prayerfully seek God’s vision for His church in Evington.  As part of that process of discernment, I would like to invite you to attend a consultation morning on Sunday 16th February at 10am.  In the context of our morning worship we will be asking questions about where we have come from and where we are now as well as where we would like to be in five years’ time.

Please don’t worry if you are not able to make it on that day.  There will be opportunities to talk through these questions over coffee after the 8am service and the 6pm service on Sunday 2nd February, as well as after the 9.30am service on Thursday 6th February.  If you are not able to make any of those dates, there is still the opportunity to be part of the process by writing to me with your thoughts.

Following the consultation process, the PCC will be going away on 1st March with Mike Harrison from the Department for Mission and Ministry to absorb all the information collected and to discern where God is leading us.  We hope to have a much clearer sense of God’s vision for St Denys and a small number of priorities to focus on as we move towards our 800th birthday.  We hope to be in a position to share these with all of you at the APCM on 8th April.

Finally, please keep praying through these coming months that by His Holy Spirit, God would continue to be at work in each one of us and in His church, and that He would guide and direct us in all our ways.

With every blessing for the New Year,

Anthony
